About this tool
Pick a figure, change it with the options on the left, and the drawing updates as you go. Press Copy image and paste it straight into Word or Google Docs, or download it as a PNG or SVG. Figures are black and white with plain Arial text, so they photocopy well.
The figures
- Atom. Shell diagrams for hydrogen to calcium, with dots or crosses. Draw the atom or its usual ion, in square brackets with the charge. The nucleus can show the symbol, the protons and neutrons, or nothing.
- Lewis diagram. Sixteen small molecules, from hydrogen and water to ethene and carbon dioxide. Draw them with dots, dots and crosses, or lines for bonds.
- Organic molecule. Alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, carboxylic acids and haloalkanes with 1 to 8 carbons. Choose where the double bond, OH or halogen goes, and draw every bond, a skeletal formula or a condensed formula. The name and molecular formula can go underneath.
- Energy profile. Exothermic or endothermic. Type the reactants and products, and add the activation energy, the energy change and a dashed line for a catalyst.
- Particle diagram. A box of particles as a solid, liquid or gas, or a row of boxes: solid, liquid and gas side by side, or an element, an element of molecules, a compound and a mixture.
Labels for test questions
Set Labels to letters and the parts are marked A, B, C. The answer key shows under the figure on screen but is not part of the image, so students write "A is the nucleus" on the test and you have the answers.
Good for
- Unit tests and quizzes
- Worksheets and homework
- Slides for the board
